BCSO Corporal Skyler James Named New Paleto Bay Police Chief

Published by Weazel NewsAll stories

PALETO BAY, SAN ANDREAS — The Paleto Bay Police Department has announced the appointment of Blaine County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Skyler James as its new Chief of Police.

James, a veteran member of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, will assume command of the established Paleto Bay Police Department following his selection to lead the agency.

The appointment brings a familiar face to the department's command staff, with James having spent much of his career serving the residents of Blaine County in multiple public-safety roles.

Before rising through the ranks of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, James also served as a firefighter with the Blaine County Fire Department at Paleto Bay Fire Station.

His time in the fire service gave James firsthand experience working alongside law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, and other first responders during some of Blaine County's most serious incidents.

That experience, combined with his law-enforcement career, has given James a unique perspective on interagency cooperation and emergency response.

James eventually continued his career in law enforcement with the Blaine County Sheriff's Office, where he currently serves as a Corporal.

As Chief, James will oversee the department's officers and operations while working closely with the Blaine County Sheriff's Office, Blaine County Fire Department, emergency medical services, and other public-safety agencies throughout the county.

His previous experience with both the BCSO and Paleto Bay Fire Station is expected to provide him with an understanding of the unique challenges facing emergency responders in northern Blaine County.

“This is an incredible opportunity to continue serving the community in a new capacity,” James said following the announcement. “I've had the privilege of serving Blaine County through both law enforcement and the fire service, and I'm proud to now take on the responsibility of leading the Paleto Bay Police Department.”

For James, the move represents something of a return to familiar ground.

His time with the Paleto Bay Fire Station gave him an early connection to the community and its residents. Now, he will return to Paleto Bay in a different uniform and with considerably more responsibility.

The new Chief will be responsible for maintaining the department's existing operations while continuing to strengthen relationships between Paleto Bay Police and the other agencies that respond to emergencies throughout Blaine County.

Officials say James' understanding of the challenges faced by firefighters and other emergency personnel could prove valuable when coordinating large-scale incidents.

James takes command at a time when cooperation between Blaine County's public-safety agencies remains increasingly important.

From major fires and vehicle crashes to criminal investigations and large-scale emergencies, Paleto Bay officers routinely find themselves working alongside personnel from the Sheriff's Office, Fire Department, and EMS agencies.

With his background on both sides of the emergency-response system, James enters the position with experience that extends beyond traditional law enforcement.

For residents of Paleto Bay, the appointment brings a familiar public servant into the department's top position — someone who has previously protected the community from behind a patrol vehicle and from inside the firehouse.
